Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates gender representation in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in pop culture she also is a vocal advocate for issues relating to targeted exploitation of women as well as other classes of individuals in the internet space. Sarkeesian, who has an MA in Social and Political Thinking in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a popular public speakers. She has delivered speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. She was fascinated by gender issues and feminism since a early age. In 2009, when she was continuing to study at the university level she launched the Feminist Frequency site. A woman with ambitions to create a web series that examined the gender representation of video games was targeted by an online campaign. The harassment didn't dissuade her. The experience only strengthened her as a journalist who is feminist. Her notable contributions to the feminist field are recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This educational nonprofit explores women's representations within the popular culture stories.
